Chapter 18 Understanding Design Principles

The chapters goal is to make you understand the importance of using design and the effects it can have on your readers. A well crafted design on your document can separate you from other writers. The principles of balance and emphasis are important to design. The balance can help so your readers don't skim through your work and making sure you put emphasis on particular area's of your presentation can catch your readers attention. Design for your purpose and find out what your purpose is. This helps with how you set up your design. Images can make your reader have a passionate reaction. Another main point is to design your project in regards to your readers. Make sure the readers understand the organization of your document and help them locate information you think is useful. Obviously you must design to address the genre you are currently working in. 18b discusses the design elements you can use such as font, line spacing, page layout elements, colors, and more. Making sure your project is easily accessible and your reader can clearly see it is very important. There are numerous reasons you can use illustrations in your documents. Illustrations can reduce the amount of text, increase the visual look, and help readers better understand your points
